Your furniture can be stained or left in its natural state. However, staining can
prolong the life of your furniture. If you wish to preserve the look of unfinished
cedar, we recommend using a wood preservative. You can finish your furniture
immediately.
Choosing a Finish
Stains come in many colors. We recommend that you test a stain in an
inconspicuous spot before you begin. **Most paint counters have samples of
stain on wood for customers to see.
How to Prepare your Furniture: Preparation is key when using stains on wood
furniture. It is important that wood is dry and clean when it is stained.
- Be sure to protect your surrounding from stain and be sure you have
adequate ventilation.
- Apply to furniture when temperature is between recommended levels
on the label.
- Sand your furniture with a palm sander or by hand with 150 grit or
finer sandpaper. Be sure to sand with the grain of the wood. Remove
dust with a lint free cloth or a clean paint brush. The tapered ends of
the furniture are rougher and may require more.
Applying a Finish
Separate parts of the furniture from the whole. For example - remove
any dresser drawers.
Apply finish as directed on manufacturer’s label. A clear coat may be
added after stain has dried.
